Hard work and hard to do work

The difference between hard work and hard to do work.
A friend from college posted an article he found in a blog. It's about a research done to compare how elite players and average players carry out their daily lives- that includes practice time! For full reading, click here.
So I pluck out a section of it which is really interesting.

... that there’s a difference between hard work and hard to do work:
  • Hard work is deliberate practice. It’s not fun while you’re doing it, but you don’t have to do too much of it in any one day (the elite players spent, on average, 3.5 hours per day engaged in deliberate practice, broken into two sessions). It also provides you measurable progress in a skill, which generates a strong sense of contentment and motivation. Therefore, although hard work is hard, it’s not draining and it can fit nicely into a relaxed and enjoyable day.
  • Hard to do work, by contrast, is draining. It has you running around all day in a state of false busyness that leaves you, like the average players from the Berlin study, feeling tired and stressed. It also, as we just learned, has very little to do with real accomplishment.
This analysis leads to an important conclusion. Whether you’re a student or well along in your career, if your goal is to build a remarkable life, then busyness and exhaustion should be your enemy. If you’re chronically stressed and up late working, you’re doing something wrong. You’re the average players from the Universität der Künste — not the elite. You’ve built a life around hard to do work, not hard work.
The solution suggested by this research, as well as my own, is as simple as it is startling: Do less. But do what you do with complete and hard focus. Then when you’re done be done, and go enjoy the rest of the day.

So, always remain calm and don't get ourselves busy unnecessarily, doing unnecessary work and stressed out at the end of the day (worse, it's not even the end of the day yet and we're already sweating heavily). Have enough sleep and... practice!! Like consistently, even if we don't see the results yet. When practicing, practice well, even though it's a (boring) technical exercise, well at least try to make it fun (that's what I always tell myself hahah). I like the conclusion : "Do less. But do what you do with complete and hard focus. Then when you're done be done, and go enjoy the rest of the day. "
And yes, after practice, it will generate a strong sense of contentment and motivation.

The Cockroach Theory

At a restaurant, a cockroach suddenly flew from somewhere and sat on
a lady. She started screaming out of fear. With a panic stricken
face and trembling voice, she started jumping, with both her hands
desperately trying to get rid of the cockroach.

Her reaction was contagious, as everyone in her group also got
panicky.

The lady finally managed to push the cockroach away but ...it landed
on another lady in the group.

Now, it was the turn of the other lady in the group to continue the
drama.

The waiter rushed forward to their rescue.
In the relay of throwing, the cockroach next fell upon the waiter.

The waiter stood firm, composed himself and observed the behavior of
the cockroach on his shirt.
When he was confident enough, he grabbed it with his fingers and
threw it out of the restaurant.

Sipping my coffee and watching the amusement, the antenna of my mind
picked up a few thoughts and started wondering, was the cockroach
responsible for their histrionic behavior?
If so, then why was the waiter not disturbed?
He handled it near to perfection, without any chaos.

It is not the cockroach, but the inability of the ladies to handle
the disturbance caused by the cockroach that disturbed the ladies.

I realized that, it is not the shouting of my father or my boss or
my wife that disturbs me, but it's my inability to handle the
disturbances caused by their shouting that disturbs me.

It's not the traffic jams on the road that disturbs me, but my
inability to handle the disturbance caused by the traffic jam that
disturbs me.

More than the problem, it's my reaction to the problem that creates
chaos in my life.

Lessons learnt from the story:
I understood, I should not react in life.
I should always respond.
The women reacted, whereas the waiter responded.

Reactions are always instinctive whereas responses are always well
thought of, just and right to save a situation from going out of
hands, to avoid cracks in relationship, to avoid taking decisions in
anger, anxiety, stress or hurry.

Have a nice day.

I found this on FB and now my writing font is of that from FB hahah! :D

Transition

"If we desire different results, we need to do things differently," -Aunty Jo's email.

We face with changes, like it or not, we have to. Changes and transitions are meant for us to mature and go on onto higher ground.

Season = a time period, one place to the next.

Transitions between seasons is a difficult time. We may get lost. To know our purpose is very important. The new is greater than the old, no matter how great the old is.

So what do we do when we're going through with the transitions? Or at least, we're aware of that it is a transition.

Rise from our sleep and make a decision. When convictions come, we must make a decision. Open up our hearts for the spirit of God and agree with the word of God. Then, fruitfulness will yield. Make that decision so that changes for the new season can come.

Keep our lights on- live life of holiness. Those lights in our lives will cause contradiction and conflict with the world. But don't compromise and feel bad when rejections happen. When serving, serve God not by works, but by His grace.

Stand firm on the ground, even when the wind is blowing our feet off. Don't turn back, don't give up. Put our hope in God. Change is hard, but it is for the better.

Be bold and courageous. Pray as often because praying is fellowshipping with God. In prayers, God will talk to you and reveal you things. Pray continuously, it's an on going conversation on all occasion. So that our minds are focused on Him.

Just combining a few of the Sunday messages and summarizing them (not the full version of course). I'm afraid that I'll lose the notes. Most importantly when I'm in Boston I can refer it right here.

PS: Message by pastors, given from God and HS as they spend time asking what to speak to the church. It's not my own word I do not take credits for this. I'm really blessed with the Sunday messages.

Know it in your heart, and you'll see

Every life is challenging. To live is already a challenge.

It is the tough moments that actually cause us to be dependent on God. It is those overwhelming times that actually level-up our faith.

Receive those challenges and 'bombs' in life like a warrior. The Word there says that we are victorious because of Jesus. He overcame death when no one else could.

I feel like giving up when the mountains are becoming more and more 'steep' to climb. So hard! Settle for second best! After all, it's still one of the best. No! I don't want regrets in the later years. No. I want to make sure God's promise fulfilled in me. He said that His words won't go out and come back empty to me, and He'll bring it to past. He said that He will finish what He has started in me. He also said that He will deliver me, and let me see miracles too, and that He is who He is. He said that He'll never leave me half way. He will help the helpless to fight.

Many times I took what He said in into my mind, but have not 'downloaded' and 'installed' those into my heart. The heart is where determination, devotion, dedication, discipline, perseverance and endurance flow out. The heart is the one that decides a person's character and relationship with God. So read, read and read His words in the Bible again and again, make sure I understand them whole heartedly. Hold on to the Word. Think about them all the time. Occupy my mind with the words for they contain inspiration, power and peace to help in daily challenges and making decisions.

Don't give up! Just keep going. When the wind is about to blow off our feet from the ground, when the rain is getting more and more heavy, pushing us behind and stopping us from going ahead, keep pushing forward, keep going. God is the anchor.

Sighs, easy to say. Now lets make it real. And... Action!

Steamboat Rain Away!

Here's a quick short testimony :

My family went and have dinner at Puchong's Coco Steamboat. Half way eating, we felt rain droplets tapping on our skins. Customers began to panic. I was a little too. And my sister told God to stop the rain because we just started our steamboat galloreee! In other words, she prayed. out. loud. lah. haha. while busy using the chopsticks for food. Dad too, he kept praying. And so we decided to stay put and not "evacuate" ourselves to a "safer" corner. We ate like we were under normal clear night sky and simply enjoyed our dinner. We know God can stop the rain. If He has parted the red sea, what is rain man?

Believe. And it will happen.

God held the rain throughout our dinner.

Simple action like that can bring blessings to everyone. Be a blessing!

He is who He is

And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Romans 8:28

Even a friend from Korea sent me the same verse that God has been placing in my heart for this whole week. Was thrilled when I received his email and know that God is keeping His promise.

Our God is Greater

Great things are happening, so much that I learn to hope and hope and believe and pray and increase my faith. Things that I learnt from last week really woke me up from my character blur-ness and spiritual sleepiness. I'm 20 and I'm growing up. Thank God for His grace, mercy, faithfulness and big love for me even when I didn't do a good job.

God works all things together for our good and His glory. Amen to that.

Why are the Israelites so confident in everything they do? Like they know that they will prosper in their work, business, health and family? And people said they seem so stuck-up. But, really, they are not. That's because they know who their God is and who they are, their identity, their inheritance, as co-heirs with Christ (This truth is all in that Book). And they take charge of what's here on earth, their rights here as members from the kingdom of God.

It's so interesting when we know that we can't do things that are impossible for us, God can help and move things until they are possible. Provided if it's His will lah ;) Even if we think we've got it handled well, well God can help us do better!

Why, you little...

Dang man. That awful feeling when you see your friend posting up something on fb or twitter and you go like : I shouldn't have known that piece of information and now I feel bad.

It's funny how your day was going so well and niceee... until that piece of information turn the rainbow up side down.

Social networks, I get annoyed with you sometimes.

Many times I felt like deleting them. But I have to stay connected for other purpose. And these things just pop out like popcorns and caused me to READ and it triggers my sensory systems, worse, the emotional side of me.

Okay, so what's the best remedy?

I don't knowwwwwww! Just suck it up, perhaps?

Food, Family and Love

I can always feel the love from my parents when they cook for the three of us, and the whole family. Be it waffles for breakfast, congee for lunch or simple 3-4 Chinese dinner dishes, or mom's curry puffs and cupcakes for tea. My family loves food. Food brings the family together. Food brings people together.

Bible study with the HS

Jesus Raises Lazarus From Death
38 Again feeling very upset, Jesus came to the tomb. It was a cave with a large stone covering the entrance.39 He said, “Move the stone away.”
Martha said, “But, Lord, it has been four days since Lazarus died. There will be a bad smell.” Martha was the sister of the dead man.
40 Then Jesus said to her, “Remember what I told you? I said that if you believed, you would see God’s divine greatness.”
41 So they moved the stone away from the entrance. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you heard me. 42 I know that you always hear me. But I said these things because of the people here around me. I want them to believe that you sent me.” 43 After Jesus said this he called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” 44 The dead man came out. His hands and feet were wrapped with pieces of cloth. He had a handkerchief covering his face.
Jesus said to the people, “Take off the cloth and let him go.”

East-to-Read-Version
- John 11 : 38-44

Lazarus coming back to life is a miracle. Before the miracle happened, Jesus gave thanks to the Father. After giving thanks, then the miracle happened.

Give thanks in all situation, whatever the situation is.Thank Him with our hearts. Miracles will happen. If you believe, you would see God's divine greatness (v40).

When there's doubt, declare and proclaim God's goodness in our lives, in our situation. Faith as tiny mini mustard seed can. move. MOUNTAINS!!

Bible study with the HS this afternoon.

PS: Some miracles happened instantly, some according to God's timing.
Different people, different encounters.
As for this, it's for me and those who can relate this with me.

 ;)

Israel Houghton and his heart

Everyone has their own life testimonies. This man, has inspired me. Just read his life story here http://www.cbn.com/cbnmusic/interviews/700club_IsraelHoughton_041205.aspx

His songs are a legacy. We sing his songs almost on every Sunday morning service. So I decided to google him up and watch some of his worship sessions on youtube. His song arrangements are superb, but his heart and love for people and God are more than anything else.

And my friend encouraged me with one of his songs, that God provides and it is abundantly, more than enough. (My ears are so tune in to the pianist :) )
