Today Is The Day

Oh, oh, oh,
Oh, oh, oh.
Oh, oh, oh,
Oh, oh, oh.

Today is the day... My first class as a Berklee student! So I happily grabbed my student ID tag and slipped it right in to my bag and off I went for class- my first Piano lesson. Nope, I don't want to pose up my ID and photo all here, in case of fraught ;PP Paranoid. Copyright. Nerd.

Lecturers in Berklee are legendaries. Boi am I so glad to be part of the Berklee family.

This evening I have written down all my goals, dreams and breakthru(s) for THIS SEASON that I wanna see them accomplished in my life, 2 years here in Boston city and music college. It's a great way for a summer kick start. To have your mind set right, know what you wanna do, know the purpose of God and have peace with it!

Dream big. Coz our God is big. Jesus, to be precise.

And yes, I am very proud of my Father in heaven. He has done such a wonderful amazing job as a father to me here. Also, my prayers for good godly friends have been answered.

Now that my goals and dreams are all set, I'm also looking forward for the process of having breakthroughs in my life. The good that comes out of a pressured period is an added blessing.

Thank you, friend!

I met a friend today. After class, I decided to have a little conversation with him. Never thought that it will be one the most meaningful ones I ever had in my life.

My friend, he's a violinist. Super talented, yet I find him humble and encouraging. He says things that build others up. So I told him what the difficulties that I'm facing. Here are a few things he said that I would like to share:
  • Be honest when you play. Whatever feelings that come to you at that time, play it out.
  • When you play, remember the little world you're in? Use that and forget about the people around you. That way, you not only express yourself but also overcome the thoughts of people judging you and the stage fright.
  • You just said that you're not satisfied with your playing after every song you played. Well, did someone tell you that your playing is not good?
  • If the 'someone' you're referring to is you yourself, ask yourself 'why?'
  • There's no perfect musicians. If he's perfect, there's no need for him to be better/improvement.
  • Don't make gender as an issue if you want to do film scoring. (I did a little research about that and realized that the film scoring industry is dominated by men) It's the music that counts.
Alamak, this friend of mine. I respect his thinking. He also said that when he plays his violin, he's just expressing his love and he's thinking about him talking to God. Much that I learnt from him. I feel proud and honored to be his friend :D

Often, I think the ones who gets inspired most of the time (I have a few friends who are like that) are the coolest people. They're more thoughtful, caring, sincere, genuine, honest, open minded, forgiving, inspiring, encouraging, emotional and loving towards others. People like them will eventually succeed and achieve their goals, I believe, one day. It may not be the same time as the rest, but in their own time, they will. This is because people like them are unique.

I respect yo!

You decide for me

It's not about what I think it's best for me.
It's all about what He thinks it's best for me.
He has a better plan for me.
This, I believe it, with all my heart.
This, is what I hold on to everyday.

I thank God for the opportunities that He has given me,
To explore my interest and strengths.
Can't wait to start teaching!
And though the scholarship wasn't awarded to me,
I thank God for that to happen.
I thought that I would curl up like a ball and then cry and wet my blankie all night long.
Surprisingly, I have peace in me that He has plan B! He definitely has one since He's in control of the situation.

Whatever that has happened, I'd already given my best attempt in all that I do.
Now, it's just up to Him to decide- Yes? No?

Today is Monday

In case someone wonders what had happened to the Dafernie who always blogs. She's really that busy.

Okie. I've been applying some teaching job as a piano teacher in 3 centres already. Just this evening, I received a phone call to enroll 2 new kids for tomorrow's last minute lessons. Moneh coming in, like finally. I really want to have my own savings and not squeeze money from my parents.

I've been telling myself to improve on my jazz playing and the way I solo. Just this evening, one of my lecturers told me that being a jazz player is like wine. The older you get, the better you become like one. And I thought to myself, I'm only a year's old and 3 months of learning to be a jazz pianist. Still young. But as long as I keep improving myself, it'll be alright.

I still yet to figure out what are my interest and what are my strengths before I head to Berklee next year. I hope to find something in these teaching jobs, or maybe it's just the money. But I would love to get my hands on on almost everything- stage crew, studio recordings, film scoring, performing, song writing, music education etc. I don't know, if I ever have those opportunities. The music scope is so wide!

But one thing I'll definitely be doing is my ministry. Still yet to discover specifically on which area.

Gaah, gota help my sis to wash the plates now. Everyone's bugging me, so annoying! :O

Byeh!

The little things

As I drive along the road on the way home, passed my former high school this afternoon, I couldn't help it but to have some compassion for the students. Millions of thoughts rushed across my mind and I wonder what are their aims in life, passion, how are coping up with their studies, are they going thru' some emotional roller coaster right now or what?

And then upon reaching home, I saw my neighbour's maid walking hand-in-hand with Ryan- a good looking little fella :) It was after his kindergarden because he was wearing his super cute uniform. And I waved at both of them so hard that I almost couldn't turn my steering properly. Hehhee! I tell you... I had the best moment today and will always keep today's picture in the back of my head. Ryan had the most amazing beautiful smile, like he was so happy to see a familiar face passing by. His smile had given me a radiant hope and I felt my heart so enlighten by that kid's expression.

I wonder, whether will I be teaching one day? Touching, encouraging and inspiring lives one day too? I hope so, through my attitude, lifestyle and music. I get inspired and encouraged by these little little things of life.

Realization

Jesus, Your Name is above all names!
Your name is higher than the heavens, higher than all created things, higher than my hopes, higher than my dreams.
When I call upon Your name, I find my safety.
When I look closely to God, ALL my problems, big and small grew smaller.
Think of the biggest thing you could even think of... Well, God is bigger than that thing you just thought of.
And if our God is for us, then who could ever stop us, and if our God is with us, then what could stand against.
I thank You for the hardships I'm going through.
It made me realized that I was so comfortable sitting down, complacent and as if I do not need Your help. That's being lukewarm. That's a BIG NO NO!
There's so many things to pray for!

Anyway, it was a good session of singing my heart out to You with some play-along from Youtube.

Back from camp and here's the story!

Once upon a time...
In the merry month of March, I signed up for the Plan 11! Teehee!

Me and my sistah, Esther, we went for the camp. Me not having any expectations about it but to go with an open heart. Guess what? My heart goes out for all the missionaries for Christ. I feel that it's one of the greatest callings to be a missionary. The world perceives this ministry or 'career' choice as foolish ones, especially graduates and working men who are earning moneys and reputations, they simply just lay down their lives for the work of Jesus. They've come to a point that money, fame and worldly empty pleasures are not the true purpose of living a one-time life on earth. It is all about winning souls to God's kingdom. That is, I believe, every believers's mission. We are created in the image of God, to pray, worship and share about Jesus Christ the way, the truth and the life to the unreached people.

It really made me think and ponder again over what am I living for and who am I living for. I always sing praise and worship songs ti God, but do I really mean it? Giving up my life to Him? Giving up my desires to Him and let Him be a my navigator?

I think what I've learnt from the Plan 11 is that God just wants my love, passion and obedience for Him in my life and music. Not so much on worrying about "what's my calling?' and 'what's my next step, oh my God?'.

Also, He says that I should "Rejoice in the Lord always; again I (God) will say, Rejoice. Let your reasonableness be known to everyone. The Lord is at hand; do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ." Philippians 4:4-7

I had a good time at camp. The food, friends and fei-lo-ship and interesting workshops and and and frisbee-on-beach game were awesome possum! :D Above all, I think that this camp has really pushed me to be discipline when praying to God, as in like I give my total focus to Him and not get distracted with other stuffs.

Man, I think I gained weight from this camp. Shucks. But I think it'll be fine once I start walking to college (again :S) tomorrow from the train station. This week's exam week. Once again, God I need your strength, wisdom and emotions in all my tests :D

mUSic

I was just relax to spend my Quiet Time after bathing. I sat there, talking to God, remembering His concern to my family and my prayers to Him.

1) I want to know You more (since young I knew Him, but I'm sure there are more of His interesting traits for me to know Him deeper)
2) I want to commit my life to You again(few days ago I recommit myself to God in prayers)

Hoping that He is pleased with me now with what I am, I told God that I'm not perfect. I thought that if God speaks to me today, about anything, I'd be thrill! So I kept quiet but after some time nothing happened. I guessed my five senses won't work and I need to have more faith in Him. I even got carried away to dig my ears with a cotton bud. Somehow I need to be more focus and discipline.

Later, I returned to my praying mode. I opened my eyes. Disbelief, the word "music" on my stinky yellow bolster caught my eyes! There were many other words such as house, lovely company, let's play balloons (huh? hahaha), honey, cute cute (yer...), pineapple juice and etc. "Music" was catchy. It has two letters that captured my attention- "US" , reminding me about God and me. He will walk me through my whole music career / ministry / life. Another assurance from God that I chose the right path. I battled with myself few days ago, doubted about the whole music choice. Now that He has assured me enough, no more doubts Daphne! Just continue to obey Him and He will make straight my path. I want to keep myself close to Him.

Think mUSic, think US ! :)

New hobby

I have this new hobby I just discovered like, 5 minutes ago *flashes teeth*

Angel was the first to hear about it.

It's another hobby for me besides playing the piano, called - Playing The Hymnals On The Piano hobby! Tadaa! =D Yes yes, it's still related to piano, friends.

It was pwetty amazing to modify the hymnals to something called soothing and contemporary hymnals. Also, I still remain the Baroque style but added some flavours of mine.

Can't wait to get the Apple Macbook (yala yala... she's so action =p) from school to have a good recording quality and then I'll just upload it on Blog/Youtube.

Whee~ I'm feeling happy! And I bought a good pair of shoes-meant-for-walking to school hee!

Inspired

Jon Schmidt is awesome! Now I recalled who is he from the second song Pachelbel Meets U2 Alex Foo sent to me. He's super skillful man. I'm also very inspired from Jon Schmidt's friend to pick up cello after seeing how beautiful he played nyek nyek! Lots of love to these songs!
(Thought I've heard of these songs many times, just found out that they are from the same guy, talk about me being blur yes, now I would just like to share them with you :D )

Also, he did the first song for his seven-year-old daughter because she loved the song she heard in the car with her daddy...so sweet!

Enjoy these three soothing songs! The last song is more of a I-Want-To-Play-Like-Him type hehe.

That is all I need

Bee-zee holiday ppl! I'm not gona list down the thingss I gota' do, it'll haunt me whenever i read my blog. SO, after a looong deep breath, I sat down on my bed. Thinking of what to do, I flipped open "1o KEYS TO 10 A s- The Psychology of Top Achievers by HELP College". Interesting... Chapter 1- Am I a thermostat or a thermometer? 5 Tips on How to be Self-motivated Person, Develop Goals in Life etc. Hmm, closed the book, closed my eyes and crossed my hands to pray.

With a heavy head, it is not possible for me to think of something relaxing and beautiful. But then, a beautiful picture had came painting in my head. Marvelling at it, I saw Him in pure white cloth, as bright as the morning sunshine. He sat down, crossed legs on a kopitiam chair (oh yeah? Yeah), marble table. Resting His head on His left hand (He was facing at me), He looked at me with a smile, just a simple yet an assuring one. Inside me, I knew He was ready to be a listening ear. The air was calm, gentle and cooling with a little breeze. This is gona sound weird, but He plucked an apple for me to eat! Reddish-yellowish. Chill, I'm not in Snow White's position.

After the whole chat with God, I was ready again with new hope, and new strength! God has promised me to be my BFF, He was just reminding me again with His gracious smile. He always keeps His promise, never will He break. I know, I trust Him, that is all I need :)

Simple prayer to Jesus

We had combination of Bio, Physics and Chemistry quiz competition today (ranking from my best subject, heh). I've got no intention for this competition, quiz starting at 9am, and I've got to know that I'm in (the whole class diwajibkan, blur the whole day) at 8.55am! Best timing huh!! So, I was in Black group (we actually switched, nyek nyek!) Soon, the big brains were working hard, slumber hard for the quiz. Winner gets hamper. I said a simple prayer that we'll at least win something, and left the results into Jesus's hand. After prayers, I kept hearing my friends uttering "die lah, won't win wan.." "We're not that smart also la..." "i think we're the dumbest group..." or something like that, and I kept binding those curses that took away the blessings of my prayer just now. Actually, I also never hope much of winning anyway, all of us didn't study of flip through =D BUt I just hope in Jesus. I've counted approximately 4 times, words of discouragement were being uttered unintentionally. Results were out, we've got 1st-runner-up! Lost by 4marks to the champion!

For our drama case, a few of us gathered ourselves to pray that we'll win champion, hoping in Jesus, not only we won champion, plus best performer! Even when playing games in our MYF (abit kiasu haha!) I remember to pray that my group will win, and yep we did win! I think I've blogged about my prayers being answered for not getting leech bites, and how miraculous a S-size YLDP 2008 t-shirt popped out for me!

Just simple prayers and by believing them, our prayers will always be answered by Jesus. That just brings me more hope to pray everyday, about everything-studies, health, life, family, friends, ministry, future partner etc.

The wou WOU

A wou..-WOU!! experiences for me during my QT.

I received so soo many confirmations from Jesus that the CF (Christian Fellowship). me and my CM (committee members) are going to start soon, nah it's TOMORROW larhhh!!! woohoo! that it will be a blast and something that brings honour, glory and pleasing things to Him :)

--> The rain : I was so worried about the number of people coming 2mr. The Lord just impressed my heart, I was distracted by the sound of the rain, in my room, initially it rained very little, slow, drizzling, soon it got more heavier and louder and it rained heavily, I could hear the crescendo sound (uh-huh). This, the number of people will start from small but eventually will grow and bloom at His timing (God's clock rmbr?) with lots of people flooding the church =) I supposed it will stop (the rain) and rains heavily again. My guess is that God will prepare me and my CM, through the ups n downs, He will be with us.

--> This Is My Desire : During the rain, this song, so happened was playing in my radio (sound tracks-Hillsong Instrumental, not some funkie rockie bang-ur-head-and-let-it-bleed music during my QT hehe..). The lyrics were so enc (encouraging) and important to me, though many times I've played, sang and heard it, still, it gives me comfort and a clear focus of my desire to God.

I've learnt how to lean upon Him and my CM- CF especially and of cus my very beloved MYF-LMCP (Methodist Youth Fellowship-Life Methodist Church Puchong, yea!!) I love them both very much. I'm sure these things that are going on, are the path God wants to show me what He can do, to reveal His true colour!

Amazing? Our God can do everything when we lean on Him, awesome! ;)

Hope In God (Pearlie)

Inspired by Pearlie :)

Why are you in despair, O my soul? And why have you become disturbed within me? Hope in God, for I shall again praise Him For the help of His presence. (Psalm 42:5)

Consider it all joy, my brethren, when you encounter various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. And let endurance have its perfect result, so that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing. (James 1:2-4)

When God seems absent and everything is going wrong, will I still trust God enough to patiently allow him to prepare me for what still lies ahead? (Bruce Wilkinson)

Offer to God a sacrifice of thanksgiving And pay your vows to the Most High; Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I shall rescue you, and you will honor Me. (Psalm 50:14)

O send out Your light and Your truth, let them lead me; Let them bring me to Your holy hill And to Your dwelling places. (Psalm 43:3)

The tree and its fruits.

I see drought, cracking soil on ground, many bold dark trees, short and stout. Some have leaves on it, some barely have any leaves, but I don't see any fruits, they are suppose to bear fruits. I see the trees are struggling to keep their leaves green and alive, what more bearing fruits? Just a rain drop from Heaven would be satisfying for the trees, but we need rain to replenish! We want more, we are desperate! Quench the thirst O Lord! What happened to the fire and enthusiasm in us for Jesus? Why the drought? How now?

Close to my Heart

My favourite verses that I always kept them close to my Heart
The very familiar ones ---

Trust in the Lord with all your heart. Do not depend on your own understanding. In all ways remember Him. Then He will make your paths smooth and straight.
Proverbs 3 : 5-6
"So I tell you, when you pray for something, believe that you have already received it. Then it will be yours."
Mark 11 : 24
I just love verses that gota to with Faith in Him.
Who knows in 15 years time, I'll serve as missionaries....
So yea, but anyway I still love My Other Half- Piano~!
I shall NOT forsake you, heh! =D

Bigger Prezzie!

Heyy all! Take a look at the sketch below and try to see what it means to you. Hee.

I've done this by myself and took me an hour!!

1. Mr.Person wants the prezzie soo much.

2. Depress. Couldn't get prezzie. Sits down. Moody. Wonders why.

3.Recognise. Hear God's calling.

4. Jesus says: That way. Trust Me. Better Outcome. And so.....

5. Mr.Person leaves his zone. Walks. Patient. Obeying the call. Still moody.

6. Mr.Person sees the whole picture. Overwhelmed.

Have you ever experienced this? Or perhaps going through this? On your way towards the bigger prezzie?

Or maybe got lost on your way?

In times, you may not see the beautiful picture from God. Feel like crying and so moody. Uncertain of where you're heading. You start to question God, it just pops out like "Am i on the right track?" , "Lord are You sure U know what You are doing?" , "Where am I Lord? You say You wanted to show me something?" , "Where are You Lord? Please reveal Yourself to me" and so on and on.

You feel helpless.

I feel helpless. I'm on my way, just left my chair (zone). More like trying to get up =.= In the mood. The Lord had asked me to leave my chair.

It's definitely hard for all of us to leave the prezzie behind and to move forward to God's plan for yourself. Some may turn a deaf ear towards the call, and others may be rude and start to bombard the call and curse God. Well, it's better not to ignore when He keeps tapping on the door of your heart. The prezzie could be anything that is close to your heart- fav job n career, fav cars, fav house, fav ministry, comfort zone or even your loved ones. Could this be a test from God? I wondered.

Don't be upset. The Lord is with you even you might not see Him. Put Him first. Work towards the aim and goal He set for you. Above all, thank Him for everything and that He had done and is doing. He has more beautiful plans and wills for your life than what you are eyeing and seeing now!
